Day 4: Docking at Falmouth, Jamaica.

Jamaica was great fun.  The traveling group of 8 hired a van and a guide to show us the sights and give us a flavor of what Jamaica is all about.  Our guide (Mario)  was a character and we got the flavor as seen through the eyes of a Jamaican with a personality.  We drove through Falmouth and Montego Bay with lots of countryside along the way.  We stopped at a plantation constructed by the Dewars family who made their fortune in the liquor business.  Great view of Montego Bay from the plantation.  On the way back to Falmouth, we stopped for lunch at the "Chill Out Hut".  It was an open air restaurant where we had the opportunity to sit by the ocean and sample local cuisine.

Mario was a riot.  Let me give you some of his perceptions.
1.  He pointed out a sign that read, "Don't Drink and Drive".  He said it was the governments attempt       at humor.
2.  He pointed out that all prices are negotiable in Jamaica.  "No price is safe", he said.
3.  He told us that there a very few homeless in Jamaica because family values are too strong.  They         take you in if you are family.
4.  "If you can drive in Jamaica, you can drive anywhere".  We saw quite a few examples of what he         was talking about.
5.  "Stop lights are decorations.  No one can figure out what they are for."
6.  Mario said that "Jamaicans will not tolerate disrespecting women.  There is a thing called "Jungle        Justice" where the male offender is beaten and then hauled of to jail."
7.  Most Jamaican men like bigger girls.  They don't like skinny girls.  They call the bigger girls                 "Fluffy".
8.  "A donkey born in a stable will never be a thoroughbred.  In other words, if you are born a                   jackass you will always be a jackass."
9.  Local hit song: "Your daddy is not your daddy but your daddy don't know".
10. "$1,000 Jamaican bill is worth $7.70 American dollars.  A nice home in Jamaica (3 bed, 3 bath            concrete construction) cost $4,000,000 Jamaican or $35,000 American dollars.  Basically, home          ownership is a lot cheaper in Jamaica.

The ship pulls away from the Falmouth Dock at 4:30 PM.  Tomorrow we will spend the day at sea heading to Columbia, S.A.

View of Montego Bay from the Dewars Plantation.

Our Lunch view: Chill Out Hut.

Stoplights are only a suggestion.
